Swimwear Brand Photoshoot in Puerto Rico
How brands shoot campaigns on the island: locations, permits, crew, licensing and a realistic budget.

Puerto Rico gives a swimwear brand what Miami used to: turquoise water, colonial architecture, cliffs and jungle, all within a two hour drive, with no passport needed for a United States based team.
Pick locations by product, not by prettiness
- Clean e-commerce look: Isla Verde or Condado at sunrise, wide beach and even light
- Editorial and dramatic: Playa Sucia in Cabo Rojo, cliffs and a lighthouse
- Texture and contrast: La Poza del Obispo in Arecibo, dark limestone against clear water
- Lifestyle and surf energy: Playa Los Tubos in Manatí or Rincón at sunset
- Color and story: Old San Juan streets for the campaign frames that stop the scroll
Build the shot list around the catalog
Every style needs front, back and detail. Group by color so the model changes once per family instead of once per piece. A realistic pace is six to eight styles in a half day and twelve to sixteen in a full day, with a stylist keeping the next look ready. If you still need local talent, here is how I work as a fotógrafo para modelos en Puerto Rico and how we cast models for campaigns.
Permits and practical logistics
Public beaches are generally fine for a small crew shooting handheld with natural light. Once you bring a large crew, lighting stands or drones, or you shoot inside a hotel property or a historic site, you need permission in advance. Plan that two to three weeks out.
Crew you actually need
- Photographer and a second shooter or video operator for content clips
- Hair and makeup that holds up in humidity and salt water
- A stylist or brand rep to steam, clip and check fit in every frame
- One assistant for reflectors, water, towels and moving between locations
Licensing and usage
Agree in writing on where the images run and for how long: organic social, paid ads, website, print, wholesale lookbook. Paid media and print usually carry a higher rate than organic use. It is cheaper to buy the rights up front than to renegotiate mid campaign.
A realistic budget
- Half day, one location, one model, photo only: from about 800 dollars
- Full day, two locations, photo and vertical video: from about 1,500 dollars
- Add model, hair and makeup, and travel to the west coast on top of that
- Delivery is usually 10 to 14 days, with a same week selection of hero images for launches
Work with someone who lives here
I shoot swimwear and apparel campaigns across the island for local and visiting brands, and I know which beach is empty on a Tuesday and which one turns gold at 6:15. If you have a drop coming, send me the lookbook and the launch date and I will put together a shooting plan.
The location is not decoration, it is part of what the customer is buying.
