The best Puerto Rico photoshoot locations

A working photographer's shortlist. Where to shoot, when the light is best, and what to know before you book. Built from years of shooting bikini, swimwear, beach and editorial sessions across Puerto Rico.

    Location 01

    Condado Beach

    San Juan

    Full location guide

Condado is the most accessible beach from Old San Juan and Santurce. The northern stretch near Ventana al Mar gives clean horizon lines and the morning side-light is perfect for swimwear editorials. Weekends fill up by 9 AM, so sunrise is key.

    Best for

Bikini, swimwear, editorial lifestyle, sunrise portraits

    Best time

Sunrise from 6:00 to 7:30 AM. Soft golden light, quiet shoreline, no crowds

    Vibe

Urban beach with a resort feel. Palm-lined shore, turquoise water, city skyline behind you.

    Parking

Metered street parking along Ashford Ave or hotel guest parking (validate before shooting).

    Location 02

    Isla Verde

    Carolina / San Juan

    Full location guide

Isla Verde has the widest beach in the metro area and consistent turquoise water. The section near the kiosks offers palms as natural framing, and the jetty at the eastern end adds a graphic element. Great for brands that want a recognizably Puerto Rican backdrop.

    Best for

Swimwear, fitness, brand campaigns, tropical lifestyle

    Best time

Sunrise for empty sand; late afternoon for warm, even light

    Vibe

Wide, postcard-perfect beach with powdery sand and calm water. The classic Caribbean look.

    Parking

Public lots along Isla Verde Ave ($5 to $10) and hotel guest parking.

    Location 03

    Old San Juan Streets

    Old San Juan

    Full location guide

Old San Juan is unbeatable for variety. In three blocks you can shoot pastel facades, wrought-iron balconies, hidden plazas, and the waterfront Paseo de la Princesa. Early morning is essential; by midday the streets and shadows get harsh and crowded.

    Best for

Fashion portraits, romantic couples, editorial street style, brand storytelling

    Best time

Early morning from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. Soft shadows, empty cobblestones, pastel walls glow

    Vibe

Colonial architecture in sherbet colors, blue cobblestones, balconies, bougainvillea. Timeless and cinematic.

    Parking

Parking lots near Paseo de la Princesa or La Puntilla; street parking is limited and timed.

    Location 04

    Flamenco Beach

    Culebra

Flamenco consistently ranks among the best beaches in the world. The shallow bay keeps the water calm for reflections, and the undeveloped hills behind the beach keep the background clean. Plan a full day: ferry or short flight from Ceiba, plus transport on the island.

    Best for

Boudoir-adjacent beach, intimate couples, swimwear editorials, fine-art nudes

    Best time

Mid-morning on a weekday. The water is glassy and the beach is quiet

    Vibe

World-famous crescent of white sand and calm turquoise water. Remote, pristine, unforgettable.

    Parking

Free parking at the beach entrance; arrive early on weekends and holidays.

    Location 05

    Crash Boat Beach

    Aguadilla

The iconic pier is the anchor here. At sunset it turns warm gold and the surf behind it creates movement. The beach is popular with locals on weekends, so weekdays are best for uninterrupted backdrops. The western end of the beach has quieter coves.

    Best for

Swimwear, fitness, surf lifestyle, dramatic pier shots

    Best time

Late afternoon until sunset. Golden side-light on the pier and sand

    Vibe

Colorful fishing pier, wilder Atlantic surf, local energy. High contrast and cinematic.

    Parking

Free lot at the beach entrance; fills up on weekends.

    Location 06

    Playa Sucia

    Cabo Rojo

Playa Sucia is about 2.5 hours from San Juan but worth every minute. The cliffs, lighthouse, and shallow cove give you three distinct looks in one location. The dirt road is manageable in a regular car when dry. Bring water and plan to stay through sunset.

    Best for

Dramatic editorial swimwear, couples, fine-art beach portraits, sunset silhouettes

    Best time

Last 90 minutes before sunset. The lighthouse and cliffs turn amber

    Vibe

Remote, dramatic cliffs, lighthouse, shallow turquoise bay. The most cinematic beach in Puerto Rico.

    Parking

Free dirt lot near the lighthouse trail; 5 to 10 min walk to the beach.

    Location 07

    Rincón

    West Coast

    Full location guide

Rincón is the sunset capital of Puerto Rico. Steps Beach is great for surf-lifestyle shots, while Domes and Sandy Beach offer variety in close proximity. The light is consistently warm from November through March. Plan at least one overnight for a relaxed, unhurried shoot.

    Best for

Surf lifestyle, boho swimwear, golden-hour portraits, intimate couple sessions

    Best time

Sunset. The entire west coast faces the setting sun

    Vibe

Laid-back surf town, rocky points, sandy coves, and the best sunsets on the island.

    Parking

Street parking along Rt. 413; small lots near Domes and Steps Beach.

    Location 08

    El Escambrón

    San Juan

    Full location guide

El Escambrón is minutes from Old San Juan and gives you calm water, rocks with texture and Fort San Gerónimo in one small stretch. It is my go-to when a client wants clean turquoise water without leaving San Juan.

    Best for

Swimwear, in-water portraits, couples, travel portraits

    Best time

Sunrise. Clearer water, empty sand and soft light

    Vibe

The clearest beach in the metro area. Turquoise water protected by a reef, dark rocks and a historic fort.

    Parking

Paid lot next to the beach and street parking near Tercer Milenio park.

    Location 09

    Paseo La Princesa

    Old San Juan

    Full location guide

The most romantic walk in Old San Juan and my favorite spot for proposals. I can blend into the promenade, capture the moment, then move to the San Juan Gate and the wall for portraits.

    Best for

    Couples, proposals, engagement, romantic portraits

    Best time

The hour before sunset, then blue hour when the lanterns turn on

    Vibe

Antique lanterns, arching trees, the city wall and the Raíces Fountain facing the bay.

    Parking

Lots near La Puntilla and Paseo de la Princesa.

    Location 10

    La Poza del Obispo

    Arecibo

    Full location guide

The most cinematic setting on the north coast. Dark limestone against clear water and a lighthouse on the cliff give three distinct looks within a few meters. About an hour and fifteen from San Juan.

    Best for

Swimwear editorials, dramatic couples, brand content

    Best time

Sunset. The sun drops on the lighthouse side and the rocks turn warm

    Vibe

Cliffs, crashing waves, a protected natural pool and the Arecibo lighthouse above.

    Parking

Free lot by the lighthouse and the beach access.

    Location 11

    Playa Los Tubos

    Manatí

    Full location guide

Los Tubos packs a lot of variety into a short stretch: calm rock pools for swimwear, a breaking wave for movement, golden sand and carved limestone. About fifty minutes from San Juan.

    Best for

Swimwear, surf lifestyle, couples, brand campaigns

    Best time

Sunset over open water, or sunrise for an empty beach

    Vibe

Open north coast, natural pools between the rocks, leaning palms and real surf energy.

    Parking

Free lot at the beach entrance; busy on weekends.
